Paige Nyman began dancing at the age of three in Kansas City, Kansas. At sixteen, she was offered a scholarship to the Harid Conservatory and studied there for two years under Svetlana Osiyeva, Oliver Pardina, and Victora Schneider. Since joining Texas Ballet Theater, favorite roles have included the title role in Ben Stevenson’s Cinderella, the Pas de Trois from Dracula, the Pas de Trois from Four Last Songs, and Laila from Laila and the Swan, as well as Waltz Girl in George Balanchine’s Serenade, The Wife in Jerome Robbins’ The Concert, and featured roles in Christopher Bruce’s Rooster and Ghost Dances. She has also loved performing in Ben Stevenson’s The Sleeping Beauty, Peer Gynt, Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet, as well as William Forsythe’s In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated, George Balanchine’s Allegro Brilliante, Glen Tetley’s Voluntaries, Jiri Kylian’s Petite Mort, Harold Lander’s Etudes and as the title role in Carlos Acosta’s Carmen. Ms. Nyman is in her eleventh season with Texas Ballet Theater.

Why did you begin dancing?
I started dancing because I wanted to be like my older sister.

What is your favorite ballet to perform/what is your favorite role you have performed?
As a whole, my favorite ballet to perform is Dracula – it is so much fun! But my favorite role has to be Waltz Girl from Serenade – her joy and self-assurance are traits I wish I had more of, so it was amazing to do that on stage.
What surprised you the most about being a professional dancer?
I was surprised how pretty some of the girls’ feet are, even after being in pointe shoes for years! Mine are quite mangled, so I thought no one could maintain any semblance of a normal foot.
What’s your least favorite word?
Moist, succulent, supple
What sound do you love?
I love the sound of rain and thunder, and rushing water
What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
What other talents do you have besides dancing?
I can make a delicious cake.
What is something you enjoy doing outside of dancing?
I love reading.
What outdoor activities do you enjoy?
Hiking, swimming, waterskiing/tubing

As of now, I want to go to medical school and work in pediatric medicine
