Ben Stevenson choreographed Alice in Wonderland to the melodic and delightful score by Joseph Horovitz in an effort to attract young families with children to the ballet – and he found success beyond his dreams! While the ballet captivates children with the story of Alice, the White Rabbit, and 65 other imaginatively rendered characters, the choreography and costumes hold the attention of adults. In an unusual twist, Alice speaks aloud to the audience – a technique that requires particular acting ability from the dancer. In fact, Alice accentuates the acting skills of the company in true story ballet tradition.
Texas Ballet Theater closes the 2006 – 2007 Season with this witty, humorous and very British take on Lewis Carroll’s tale of a girl who steps through the looking-glass into a land of living cards and grinning cats. Enchanting costumes and set designs by British designer Nadine Baylis come from the original illustrations for Carroll’s books, and are complemented by veteran ballet lighting designer Tim Hunter’s creative illumination.
