Texas Ballet Theater
Presents Ben Stevenson’s
Alice in Wonderland

Texas Ballet Theater closes its 2006-07 Season with a magical adventure

North Texas – Texas Ballet Theater presents the final production of the 2006-07 Season,
Ben Stevenson’s Alice in Wonderland, at Fort Worth’s Bass Performance Hall on Friday, April 27 at 8 p.m., Saturday, April 28 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday, April 29 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.  Tickets are priced $18 - $74 and can be purchased by calling toll-free 1-877-212-4280 or by visiting www.texasballettheater.org.

Ben Stevenson’s Alice in Wonderland is a witty, humorous and very British take on Lewis Carroll’s tale of a girl who falls down the rabbit hole into a land of living cards and grinning cats.  In an unusual twist, Alice speaks aloud to the audience throughout the ballet, advancing the plot through actual passages of the book.  Stevenson says, “Giving Alice the ability to speak to the audience adds more depth to the character and is an added challenge for the dancer.”

This will be Texas Ballet Theater’s premiere of Ben Stevenson’s Alice in Wonderland; Houston Ballet performed the world premiere in 1992.  Stevenson originally choreographed this family-friendly ballet in an effort to introduce children to the art of dance.  “The 55 character cast includes the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, the King and Queen of Hearts, the Cheshire Cat and the Dodo Bird.  The costumes were designed by Nadine Baylis based upon the original illustrations in the Lewis Carroll book,” states Stevenson.  The title role of Alice will be performed by Texas Ballet Theater artists Carolyn Judson, Jayme Autrey Griffith and Victoria Wadsworth opposite André Silva and Thomas Kilps as the White Rabbit.

Audience members interested in gaining “behind the scenes” knowledge of the performance are invited to attend Texas Ballet Theater’s Pre-Performance Lectures held on the mezzanine level of Bass Performance Hall forty-five minutes prior to curtain.  Margo McCann, Texas Ballet Theater company manager and former artist, offers insight into the world of professional ballet in this informative lecture series.

As part of Bass Hall’s Children’s Education Program, Texas Ballet Theater will present two special Student Matinee performances for fourth-grade students of the Fort Worth Independent School District on the morning of Friday, April 27 at Bass Performance Hall.
