CityDance Outreach Program

Texas Ballet Theater’s CityDance Outreach Program
To Train and Educate the Future Generation, to Awaken and Nurture the Artist

Texas Ballet Theater instills the love of dance and the importance of the art form in local children through the CityDance Outreach Program. CityDance is a free program offering ballet training and dance education to elementary schools and children’s organizations throughout North Texas. Texas Ballet Theater’s CityDance Outreach Program reaches children who might never have the opportunity to experience classical ballet by offering them a chance to dance.

CityDance currently serves over 700 students with professional instructors visiting schools usually during the after-school hour for a pre-determined number of weeks. Students are introduced to basic ballet skills, French terminology, and techniques to improve self-discipline and confidence. Ballet class is offered to elementary-age students; no previous experience required. The program is designed to teach and sustain the true art form of ballet. To enhance the curriculum learned, each CityDance participant receives a voucher to a professional Texas Ballet Theater performance.

Occasionally, promising students are identified and offered scholarship opportunities to continue their ballet training at Texas Ballet Theater School either in Dallas or Fort Worth, the official training facilities of Texas Ballet Theater.

The benefits of studying ballet include developing coordination, inspiring creativity, improving non-verbal communication, promoting the importance of stretching and physical activity, and encouraging a passion for the arts. As an added benefit, many children and educators find this training and self-expression positively affects the students’ performance in the classroom.

CityDance Outreach Manager Merideth Tullous has returned to Texas from New York City where she was a coordinator and Beginner Ballet teacher for Ballet Tech – Eliot Feld’s New York City Public School for Dance that reaches over 30,000 public school children per year. In collaboration with the staff of Texas Ballet Theater, she has redesigned the CityDance Outreach program to reach more students each year.

If you desire more information regarding CityDance Outreach Program or would like for your school to participate in this rewarding program, please contact Texas Ballet Theater at 817.763.0207 ext. 103 or email Merideth Tullous , CityDance Outreach Program Manager.
