Dancers’ Lines Watch how the arms and legs
of the dancers form graceful parallel and perpendicular lines.
Dancers’ Feet Watch for crisp, clean footwork. Notice
how the dancers’ toes are always pointed when they leave the ground.
Pantomime Often in addition to the choreography
and emotional interaction of the dancers, most ballets feature a series
of pantomimes to help get the narrative started.
Height and Lightness Watch how high the men are
able to leap into the air and how many rotations they can make in mid-air. Watch
for the quick and detailed footwork of the women while their upper body
remains fluid and light.
Lights, Costumes and Sets Observe whether the lighting
is bright and energetic or dark and mysterious. Pay attention to
the costumes and sets for clues about the performance.
Music Listen to the music during the ballet. Notice
how the music changes and determine what type of mood it inspires.
