Pointe Shoes are the most important tool used by professional ballet dancers today. In fact, the condition of a dancer's shoe often influences the quality of a performance. Today’s sophisticated pointe shoes are laboriously crafted by hand – no two pair are exactly the same. Pointe shoes give dancers just enough support to sustain breathtaking balances and perform multiple pirouettes. Surprisingly, pointe shoes are constructed of only lightweight fabric, leather and glue. Pointe shoes are expensive and wear out quickly. It is not uncommon for a professional dancer to go through several pair in one week. Texas Ballet Theater will spend over $80,000 on more than 1,600 pairs of pointe shoes this season alone. We need your help to meet this considerable expense.
